“Be the person your dog thinks you are.” – Unknown
Whether you’re a cat person or a dog person, having a pet is important for our overall well-being. When you sit down at the end of a long day, put your feet up and your animal comes to you for attention, you can’t help but feel loved and adored. All the stress of your day dissipates from your furrowed brow with every stroke on your pet’s back. The ease and comfort of your pet’s relationship with you reminds you of the important things in life and makes you think that maybe, just maybe, everything is right in the world in this moment in time.
Pets on Parade
Krikita and I have worked together twice before this photo shoot, the first time while photographing her for her very special birthday party. When Krikita contacted me to conduct a photo shoot with her dogs, I had no idea what I was in for! My first thought was, “Two small dogs?! I should be able to get all the pictures I want within the first 30 minutes.” Little did I know that two tiny dogs could have so much energy and personality! There were an abundance of photo opportunities with these guys! Instead of forcing poses, I let the dogs run playfully and took candid shots along the way. Watching the dogs play freely, I realized that they would run and then every so often, freeze in place. Instead of fighting their natural instincts, I went with the flow and took their images accordingly… Run, freeze, shoot. Repeat.
Pets on Location
The condo building that Krikita lives in has a lush garden for it’s residents to enjoy. It really is a beautiful space that provided a fun atmosphere for the dogs and was a great background for the images. If you don’t know the space, it almost looks as though Krikita is hanging out with her dogs on an outdoor patio of a cafe or in a park downtown. The park gives the pictures a sophisticated feel. The best part? Krikita didn’t have to cart her dogs around town searching for the “best” location.
Pets and Us
Taking these photos of Krikita’s fun loving dogs made me think about our family. Even though our older son would be ecstatic, we currently don’t have a pet. Our son loves all animals and has held everything from a large snake the size of himself to petting a sting ray. If I was a betting man, I would put my money down on him becoming a marine biologist one day. He’s especially mesmerized by water life. However, he is only four years old. A lot will change between now and when he’s 18 and deciding on post-secondary education! When life gets a little less hectic – we DO have a baby in the house! – perhaps we’ll look into adopting a pet. Until then, Dorian will continue to pet the exotic animals of the world and playing with our extended family’s dogs. (All the fun, without the mess!)

My passion and biggest asset is taking the time to make every client comfortable and relaxed before I even pick up the camera. The result? Photos of you that actually look like you at your best! I can prove to you how much you can enjoy having your picture taken. Lifestyle photography is about the experience that happens to be served up along side of some great photos.
