An Archeo wedding at Toronto’s Distillery District offers couples a unique combination of historic architecture, romantic cobblestone streets, exceptional dining, and beautiful wedding photography opportunities. Srdjan and Anastasia’s wedding included a documentary-style celebration, a Serbian Orthodox church ceremony, portraits with the Toronto skyline at Trillium Park, and an intimate reception at Archeo Trattoria. Their wedding perfectly blended modern storytelling with meaningful traditions in one of Toronto’s most iconic wedding venues.
Srdjan and Anastasia’s Archeo wedding celebrated the best of Toronto, combining a Serbian Orthodox church ceremony, documentary-style wedding photography, and an intimate reception at Archeo Trattoria in the Distillery District. Their wedding day began with relaxed getting-ready moments, followed by a heartfelt first look at their downtown apartment before travelling to Holy Transfiguration Serbian Orthodox Monastery in Milton for their ceremony.
On the way to the reception, we stopped at Trillium Park to photograph the couple with Toronto’s skyline and the CN Tower before arriving at the Distillery District. Historic architecture, cobblestone streets, warm evening light, and the welcoming atmosphere of Archeo Trattoria created the perfect setting for authentic wedding photographs throughout cocktail hour and the reception. The evening concluded with dramatic nighttime portraits beneath the Distillery District lights, creating a timeless ending to a celebration filled with family, tradition, and genuine emotion.
Srdjan and Anastasia’s Archeo wedding at Distillery District in Toronto was one of the highlights of my 2025 wedding season.
As I mentioned in my Instagram post, my coverage of Anastasia and Srdjan’s wedding reflected a modern, documentary-style approach typical of many European weddings today, infused with some traditional elements, all set in the heart of Toronto’s Distillery District. Their celebration at Archeo Trattoria was filled with fun, fantastic food, drinks, and a joyful atmosphere of dancing.

Archeo Wedding at Distillery District in Toronto
Srdjan and Anastasia’s wedding was unique in many ways, and that is how our connection began as well.
Srdjan called me about three months before their wedding to talk about their plans. When I learned that he was Serbian, I switched to Serbo-Croatian, which I had studied for 8 years in elementary school, when Yugoslavia was still a country.
Talking with Srdjan, I immediately felt a connection. First of all, I understood that the wedding he was planning would not be a traditional Serbian wedding with loud music and a lot of alcohol. He had recently lost his father and did not want to celebrate in that way without him. Having lost my own dad years ago, I truly connected with him and understood exactly what he meant.
The next time we spoke, during a conference call, I met Anastasia, who is of Russian heritage, and I immediately felt the same way about her.
With only a short time left to plan, I met my couple at their apartment in Toronto, where Anastasia would be getting ready and where they planned to have their first look.
I loved their city apartment, and it reminded me of the feeling I always have back home in Macedonia.
At that meeting, we finalized the timeline for the day and made a plan for their Archeo wedding.

City-Style Getting Ready Photos Before the Archeo Wedding
I arrived at Srdjan’s mom’s house in the morning for his getting-ready and some family photos.
Instead of following the traditional getting-ready timeline I usually use for my grooms, I decided to take a more relaxed, documentary-style approach with Srdjan and his family.
I captured those special moments when every parent wants to create the perfect atmosphere for their child’s wedding, and when friends and relatives want to help but also feel the pressure that comes with the wedding day.
With this relaxed approach, I captured exactly what I wanted, and before long, I was on my way to their apartment, where Anastasia was getting ready.
At their apartment, Anastasia was doing her own hair and makeup while Srdjan’s best man’s wife helped her.
I loved their bright apartment, and the sunny weather helped me capture some amazing documentary images with minimal effort.
Our timeline left very little extra time, so I captured images as Anastasia got ready, with only limited time for posing or more creative setups.
The plan was that once she was ready, we would take a few photos on the balcony before Srdjan and his best man arrived to pick up his bride for their church wedding.

First-Look Photos Before the Church Ceremony
As I was taking photos on the balcony, I noticed the limo approaching the building in the distance.
We finished the last few preparations, and then Srdjan rang the bell. I took one cute photo through the door viewer as he waited outside.
This was a very unconventional first look, with the bride opening the door to their apartment to welcome her husband-to-be into his own home.
The size of their smiles said it all. They were incredibly happy.
With only 15 minutes for photos before heading to the church, I focused on capturing the full atmosphere of those moments.
During my visit earlier that month, I had noticed some beautiful light in the lobby, so we stopped there first. Then we went outside, just across from their building, and took a few photos showcasing their building and the traffic around it.
We were working in direct sunlight, so I did not ask for much, knowing we would have plenty of time to take more photos later at Toronto’s Distillery District near their venue, Archeo Trattoria.

The Church Wedding Ceremony at Serbian Orthodox Monastery, Holy Transfiguration in Milton
Many times I had passed by this amazing location, but I had never had the opportunity to photograph a wedding there. I arrived well ahead of everyone else to set up my lights and scout the location, and I was there before the first wedding guests arrived.
I took a few photos before going inside, where I introduced myself to the priest and asked for his guidance. With extensive experience photographing Orthodox weddings, I am very familiar with the traditions and always make a point of connecting with the priest. It helps build a strong relationship and creates a great working atmosphere.
As soon as I finished setting up my cameras and started taking some detail photos, Srdjan arrived with his best man and the rest of the guests, while Anastasia stayed outside with her parents.
I quickly went outside to photograph Anastasia and her parents, seeing them for the first time, knowing I needed to be back inside before she entered the church, since I was the only photographer.
The church ceremony began on time, and my traditional Orthodox wedding coverage got underway.
Knowing the order of each part of the ceremony gave me the advantage of being prepared for every moment, allowing me to create a variety of images while providing true documentary coverage for this Archeo wedding.
After the ceremony, we took a large-group photo with all their guests, then continued with immediate-family photos in front of the monastery.

The Photo Session at Trillium Park with the CN Tower in the Background
When we planned the timeline, Anastasia wanted to include some photos with the CN Tower in the background to showcase one of Toronto’s most recognizable landmarks in their wedding photos.
I knew the perfect location that would take very little time, and with only 15 minutes, we could capture those images. I suggested stopping on the way to their Archeo wedding at the Distillery District, near Trillium Park, before continuing to the venue. Srdjan was a little reserved about the idea, but Anastasia really wanted those photos.
The biggest challenge was parking, so I stopped in front of Hotel X Valley Parking and asked the attendants if I could leave the car there while I photographed my bride and groom, promising I would be back within 15 minutes. They were incredibly accommodating, and once I parked the car, the five of us headed toward the spot where I wanted to take the photos.
It was a bit of a walk, which I used to my advantage by capturing some candid shots of the four of them together, giving them photos that are not usually taken.
Once we arrived at my secret spot, we took about 20 photos before starting the walk back to the cars.
With that item checked off our list, everyone relaxed a little more, allowing me to capture even more natural images as we stopped at places I felt were worth photographing.

Their Wedding Cocktail Celebration at Archeo Trattoria
Having photographed at Toronto’s Distillery District before helped me navigate the area quickly and arrive at Archeo before everyone else.
The setup was perfect, so I started taking photos of the venue while waiting for my couple to arrive and call me for their Distillery District wedding photos.
After capturing the venue images I wanted, I saw my bride arrive. We stepped outside and, after taking a few photos with their guests, visited a couple of spots in the Distillery District that I felt were worth photographing in the 10 minutes we had available.
Working late in the afternoon, I noticed the cobblestones along the main street creating beautiful reflections, so I brought my couple to the heart sculpture with the LOVE letters, where we took some photos.
My favourite images were captured during the walk from our arrival at the location back to Archeo.
The setting sun and the reflections from the storefront windows created an amazing warm light that, combined with their smiles and happiness, was unforgettable.
Both of them were happy that they no longer had to rush and could finally relax and spend time with their friends and family.
After bringing them back, I left them at the restaurant entrance while I went inside Archeo to set up my lighting.
It was a fairly dark environment, but with my off-camera flash, it was no problem at all.
Once I finished setting up, I wanted to capture some fun photos while letting my couple and their wedding guests enjoy relaxed, candid cocktails in front of Archeo Trattoria.

Archeo Trattoria Wedding Reception at the Distillery District
Since it was a Sunday wedding, I wasn’t sure how long everyone would stay, so the couple booked me until 10 pm. Following the timeline, everything was running on schedule.
Once all of the guests were seated, Srdjan and Anastasia casually joined them and went straight into their first dance.
The atmosphere was amazing, and the soft, cozy lighting created the perfect setting for some beautiful photos.
The evening unfolded with heartfelt speeches, great music, and delicious food. Once my couple cut the cake, the guests quickly filled the dance floor.
There was no sign of it being a slow Sunday wedding, only dancing and so many happy faces.
I captured every beat and every dance while also making sure to photograph the sweet table, which was filled with traditional Serbian desserts.
I knew I wanted to end their wedding with my signature nighttime photos, and their Archeo wedding at the Distillery District was the perfect place to do it.
The string lights, the reflections on the cobblestones, and the iconic Distillery District sign created the perfect backdrop.

Nighttime Photos at Distillery District in Toronto
When the timing felt right, I asked my couple if I could borrow them for three to five minutes to take their final photos, and they loved the idea.
The moment I showed Anastasia the last image on the back of my camera and saw her reaction, I knew we had created something truly special.
I said goodbye to both of them and to some of their family members, with whom I had connected throughout the day, and headed home.
One of the things I appreciated most about this wedding was how naturally every part of the day flowed. From quiet moments during the morning preparations to the traditions of the church ceremony, portraits overlooking Toronto’s skyline, and the celebration at Archeo Trattoria, every chapter reflected Srdjan and Anastasia’s personalities. Their wedding is a wonderful example of how thoughtful planning and meaningful moments create photographs that remain timeless.
Thank you, Srdjan and Anastasia, for trusting me with your memories and for making me feel like a guest at your wedding. I look forward to grabbing a coffee with you soon to select your wedding prints.
I had a wonderful time photographing a wedding for a couple who share the same wedding style that I admire and would love to recreate one day for my own vow renewal with my amazing wife.
