Heather and Zach’s farm engagement photos in Puslinch beautifully capture both their young family and their deep love for the farm life they’ve wholeheartedly embraced.<\/p>\n

When we met Heather at the local Guelph wedding show, she spent more time with my wife, talking about her preferences and the idea for her wedding day.<\/p>\n

Afterward, when Heather reached out to set up a meeting, my wife filled me in on their conversation and shared her insights on what Heather was likely looking for in a wedding photographer.<\/p>\n

The Visit for Their Farm Engagement Photos at her Family Farm<\/h2>\n

Heather’s parents’ farm in Puslinch was the chosen location for both their farm engagement photos and their wedding day portraits.
\nShe invited me to visit the family farm and take a walk around the property, as well as the wedding venue\u2014just across the road at the local community centre, where her father and other family members have long been involved in maintaining and supporting the space.<\/p>\n

When I arrived, I was struck by how expansive and scenic the property was, with its beautiful, wide-open landscape. Rather than immediately scouting for photo spots, I took the time to listen to Heather and Zach as they shared their vision for both their engagement session and wedding day.<\/p>\n

They walked me through her father’s workshop, where he repairs John Deere tractors and farm equipment\u2014something they hoped to feature in the photos. Heather’s idea was to include some of those tractors in their farm engagement photos as a meaningful nod to the life they love and live every day on the farm.<\/p>\n

It was inspiring to hear their plans and get a sense of how they envisioned the session once we settled on a date and time.<\/p>\n

The Family Farm in Puslinch<\/h3>\n

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, finding a date that worked for both of us was a bit of a challenge. Still, we managed to schedule Heather and Zach’s farm engagement photos as the first session of the day, with Gabriela and Bruna’s session<\/em><\/a> planned for later in the afternoon.<\/p>\n

The morning of the shoot was a little windy but sunny, with stunning cloud formations drifting across the sky. I hoped those clouds would stick around to help create vibrant, dynamic farm engagement photos.
\nHeather’s dad had thoughtfully parked one John Deere tractor beside a lone tree standing proudly in the middle of a large field and another just in front of their house.<\/p>\n

Heather wanted to begin with family photos\u2014featuring their little baby boy and his older brother\u2014before moving on to their engagement shots. It was clear she had put a lot of thought into every detail, hoping to make these farm photos truly special. The baby’s blanket was covered in John Deere logos, and even his tiny boots matched the brand.<\/p>\n

To make the most of our time, we started with family portraits using the tractor as a backdrop. As the session unfolded, we captured different combinations\u2014Heather with the boys, just the kids, and the whole family together.<\/p>\n

Although the sun was out, the wind brought a chill, and I didn’t want the little one to get too cold. So, Heather’s mom brought the boys inside while Heather, Zach, and I continued focusing on their farm engagement photos.<\/p>\n

The Beauty of This Farm Engagement Photos<\/h3>\n

Once the boys went inside, I wasn’t quite sure where to begin\u2014every direction offered a new opportunity for stunning photos.<\/p>\n

Knowing they had planned an outfit change later on, I decided to start with some shots in the tree-lined alley beside the farm. It gave us a bit of shade from the strong sun and, hopefully, a break from the wind.
\nSince this was Heather and Zach’s very first photo session as a couple, they were understandably a bit nervous. I kept my distance, giving them space to relax and interact naturally while subtly framing them within the farm landscape.<\/p>\n

Eventually, we made our way to the green tractor parked near the house, and I began photographing them there. The vibrant blue sky against the green tractor made the colours in their farm engagement photos pop even more beautifully than I had hoped.<\/p>\n

While we were working near the forest edge, I noticed the wind had calmed a little. I asked Heather if she’d be willing to bring the boys back out so we could capture a few more family shots before they changed into their second outfits.<\/p>\n

Her mom brought the kids over, and this time, both boys were more at ease. Heather and Zach also seemed more relaxed, naturally interacting with their children while I captured those heartfelt, candid moments.
\nOnce we wrapped up the family photos, Heather, Zach, and I moved over to the barn, where we took some more intimate portraits of just the two of them.<\/p>\n

The Open Field with John Deere Tractor and My Couple<\/h4>\n

I was excited for the second part of their session, especially with the breathtaking field that featured a tractor parked in the middle. Behind it, a grand tree stood tall, framed by a vibrant forest glowing in autumn colours\u2014a perfect reminder of why fall photos in Canada are among the most stunning in the world.<\/p>\n

Their second outfit was more casual, and Heather wore her cowboy boots\u2014which were a perfect fit for the vibe of their farm engagement photos.
\nI already had a vision in mind and guided them to walk toward the far end of the field before turning and walking through the middle toward the parked tractor. The backdrop not only complemented their outfits but also added a rich, colourful setting that brought the session to life.<\/p>\n

The wind gently tousled Heather’s hair, and the colour of her dress blended beautifully with the autumn scenery behind her.
\nWith so much open space in the field, I was able to capture a variety of shots as they slowly made their way to the tractor.<\/p>\n

When they reached it, I directed them from a distance while continuing to photograph their natural movements, slowly making my way toward them.
\nOnce I got closer, I switched to a wide-angle lens to take more intimate shots. A few small clouds moved in just in time to diffuse the harsh sunlight, creating a soft, flattering overcast that was perfect for outdoor portraits.<\/p>\n

Using the same lens, I began walking backwards as they walked toward me. By this point, Heather and Zach were completely at ease\u2014so much so that their connection came through effortlessly. Their interaction felt natural and sincere, which made for beautifully authentic farm engagement photos.<\/p>\n

The Beauty of Your Farm in Puslinch<\/h4>\n

To finish the session, I guided them to two final spots where I wanted to capture a slightly different tone.<\/p>\n

The first location was their entry road, which winds gently from the main road up to their farmhouse. On one side, a vast open field stretched into the distance; on the other, their family’s forest stood tall, lined with majestic evergreen trees.<\/p>\n

Standing near the top of the road close to their house, I asked Heather and Zach to walk away from me along their driveway and simply interact with each other. This gave me the perfect opportunity to frame them in the center of the shot, with the winding road stretching out behind them, leading toward the vibrant fields, trees, and nearby farms in the distance.<\/p>\n

When they had walked far enough, I called for them to head back toward me. Now, with their faces lit and the front view exposed, I could truly see the connection between them\u2014Heather was glowing with a smile, and Zach looked at his soon-to-be wife with so much love. It felt special to witness and capture that moment as part of their farm engagement photos.<\/p>\n

I must have taken close to a hundred shots in that one spot\u2014there were just so many creative angles and cropping possibilities to explore.
\nThe last location I had envisioned was by their family pond. I had noticed it on my first visit but wasn’t sure at the time if it would be accessible. Thankfully, her father had mowed the grass around the pond, which gave us a clear path to its edge.<\/p>\n

The Last Engagement Photos at this Family Farm<\/h4>\n

The sky was a deep blue, and the sun’s direction lined up perfectly with how I wanted to compose the shots. I walked to the far side of the pond while Heather and Zach strolled along the opposite side. The view in front of me was stunning. As Heather gently led Zach along the edge, I moved with them from across the water, capturing some of my favourite vibrant images of the day.<\/p>\n

I couldn’t believe how many unique photos we were able to create during their farm engagement session.<\/p>\n
